Ebony Unveils Redesigned Website
(Press Release) January 18, 2012, New York, NY – EBONY unveiled today its redesigned website, EBONY.com. The new site, designed by Code and Theory, offers a compelling user experience through a wide range of multimedia content, intuitive navigation and powerful visual appeal. The site underscores EBONY’s role in providing fresh, modern and relevant information from an African-American perspective.
“The relaunch and redesign of EBONY.com represents a true extension of our brand,” said Amy DuBois Barnett, EBONY’s Editor-in-Chief. “It provides a platform to showcase our cutting-edge content while complementing the classic appeal of the magazine. Most important, the new website is intrinsic to our identity as a leading and passionate voice for the African-American community.”
Visually striking, EBONY.com showcases a specially designed homepage carousel that fades images in and out as well as behind-the-scenes footage of the magazine cover and celebrity shoots. The “Speak” video roundtable series covers conversations by key bloggers and thinkers on topics relevant to the African-American community.
“Code and Theory is thrilled to participate in the reinvention of a truly iconic brand in the media world,” said Dan Gardner, Co-Founder, Executive Director of User Experience, Code and Theory. “Inspired by the unparalleled beauty and significance of EBONY’s historical imagery, we created a bold design that creates an exceptional reading experience and makes the most of the EBONY visual content.”
Along with a sophisticated design, EBONY.com’s website features a variety of new content categories related to the hottest trends, including “Careers & Finance,” “Love & Sex,” “Entertainment & Culture,” “Wellness & Empowerment,” “Life” and “Style.” In addition to highlighting original reporting and photography, the website offers visitors best-in-class bloggers and A-List experts on everything from astrology to the economy.
The site’s exclusive branded online content also effectively communicates the EBONY experience. In the newly imagined “Discuss” vertical, EBONY.com uses new technology to create exciting, current conversation inspired by live Twitter feeds. The “Introducing” section shows off EBONY.com as it introduces some of the hottest underground Black talent in the world of music, art and fashion.
In conjunction with the site’s relaunch, EBONY is offering a wide range of combined advertising packages for the print magazine and EBONY.com. Leading brands such as The Air Force, Namaste, Fox Movie Studios/”Red Tails,” Smirnoff and Wells Fargo are taking advantage of sponsorship opportunities and customized advertising offerings for the Homepage and several of the website’s new sections, including “BlackListed” (top stories from around the Web), “New & Now” (current content offerings) and the daily “Black History” module.
EBONY.com’s distinctive viewpoint and vision is shaped by its Editorial Director, Kierna Mayo, a veteran magazine and digital editor. She is supported by a group of well-known writers and thought-leaders on African-American issues and affairs.
