Editor & Publisher Shuttered, 8 Brands Dealt by Nielsen

After more than 100 years of covering the newspaper industry, Editor & Publisher has been shuttered by The Nielsen Company, according to an announcement Thursday. Nielsen is also selling eight of its most storied brands—including Billboard magazine and The Hollywood Reporter—to e5 Global Media, a new private-equity backed company.

Also included in the deal are Adweek Media, which includes Adweek, Mediaweek and Brandweek, Backstage, The Clio Awards and Film Journal International.

"Nielsen is committed to managing its portfolio of businesses in a way that maximizes their long-term value," said Greg Farrar, president of Nielsen Business Media. "Divesting these titles allows Nielsen to focus its investment on its core businesses and those parts of our portfolio that have the greatest potential for growth, including our leading trade show group."

The acquisition is scheduled to close by Dec. 31, 2009.
