Professionals from all walks of the media industry—book and magazine publishers, analysts, tech company representatives—gathered in Tribeca in New York City for the inaugural mediaIDEAS Cabaret Meetup. Held July 13 at the Macao Trading Co., the free event—sponsored by media research company mediaIDEAS and media partners Publishing Executive and Book Business magazines—brought together approximately 168 individuals who networked and discussed the present and future of the publishing industry.

The mediaIDEAS Cabaret Meetup also featured presentations from leading executives in the industry, including Josh Koppel, founder of ScrollMotion; David Renard of mediaIDEAS; and Wright Ferguson, Jr. of Pongr, which provides mobile social marketing tools and programs to publishers including Conde Nast.

"What I appreciated about the event was the variety of industry people who came together in an informal setting," says Jim Sturdivant, senior editor, Publishing Executive. "The conversations were lively and the presentations witty and thought-provoking."

"The sheer number of people who attended was impressive, but what really made this event worthwhile was the energy and enthusiasm and exchange of ideas from all who were present," says Janet Spavlik, editor-in-chief, Book Business magazine. "If you were looking to meet like-minded publishing professionals, discuss your thoughts about the direction of the industry, and gain new perspectives related to your career, this was the place to do it. I'm already looking forward to the next one."
