I received some feedback from a colleague this week that some of my posts come across a bit cynical at times. My response? “I’m glad whoever said that is reading!”
But strangely enough, I agree. So I’m taking some time to write something positive.
During a massive development project spanning several months, our technical team has been sequestered in a room it refers to as the “Nerdery,” so everyone can share ideas, scream, exalt and chow down on a half-dozen Dunkin Donut bagel sandwiches (each) for breakfast without disturbing anyone else.
The problem is that I don’t consider these “guys” (there’s one young woman in the group) nerds. After spending a few days with some of them outside of the office and working with them throughout the project, their dedication, sense of humor, and patience is more than obvious. They’ve also managed to take some time off, so life can’t be that bad.
As we push through this project in an effort to move our Web sites off the slowest server/content management system the world has ever known (oops, that’s a bit negative), many of you must be in similar situations. It’s not too hard to reach out and say thanks to the folks who work so hard to make you look good.
That said, I want to use this space to thank each of them for everything they’re doing. When this is all behind us, a round of egg, bacon and cheese sandwiches is on me!
