Media Pitch: Greebled Plans to Reinvent the Newsletter Using Chatbots
Greebled wants to deliver content to where readers are, and increasingly says CEO Yuri Vaskovski, consumers are spending time on social media and messaging platforms. In order to harness this engagement, the startup distributes the latest articles from readers’ favorite publications to the messaging platform of their choice, and at the time they want. The goal is to make tracking the news as simple and immediate as possible, replacing newsletters and RSS feeds with chatbots, says Vaskovski. In the following interview, Voskovski explains how Greebled was founded and the startup’s plans for the future.
Explain your existence: What problem are you solving or opportunity are you enabling? How are you unique and innovative?
When you buy a new phone you unintentionally install applications like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. Five years ago it was cool to have two or three pages of different applications, but now consumers are looking for simplicity. They want to have everything in one place. Greebled is a service that lets you get news without installing a different application and without setting up RSS or email newsletters.
Inspiration: How did you come up with this idea? How does your new tech solution reflect changes and trends underway in the media world?
When I moved to Canada I had three things I wanted to know about: Arsenal FC, Belarus, and Tech. Even though I visited two websites with news about Belarus and Tech, with loads of studies, it was sometimes complicated to stay up to date. I wanted an easy service with all the news I want at my convenience. That’s what Greebled provides to its users, a more convenient way to track the news.
Results: How have you or do you plan to help media companies increase revenue or cut costs? Can you quantify this?
We are allowing publishers a modern way of distributing their content. Surely, they have Twitter and Facebook postings but they are not personalized. This will lead us to creating analytics platform with insight into who reads what, when, with what, and other information that is invaluable to publishers.
Share some wisdom: What do you think are the most important trends affecting the media business today? What do you see that no one else sees?
Do not underestimate the power of social networks and messengers. There is a reason why all major companies in that area started releasing APIs. The power of delivering instant content is enormous. Publishing executives themselves wake up everyday and first thing they check is unread messages in chats. Yet, you can only receive news through RSS or Email Newsletters which have been around longer than smartphones.
What’s Next? How do you plan on expanding or improving on your offering? Where do you see opportunities for growth?
Greebled is adding 50 to 100 publishers and 3 to 6 integrations by the end of the year. We want more people to have an easy access to their favorite news at the tap of a finger.
