2010 Publishing Executive Hall of Fame: Excellence and Evolution
Everyone's role in publishing is changing today. But few, perhaps, have changed as significantly as the roles of production and manufacturing executives. From film, paste-ups, bluelines and print-buying to digital workflows, CTP, remote proofing, digital advertising and publications, and buying digital services from their print partners, their jobs are barely recognizable from just 10 years ago.
The key for these executives to continue to advance their careers is to "always be learning," says Bill Amstutz, director of publishing operations and strategic planning for NewBay Media, one of this year's Publishing Executive Hall of Fame inductees. "You have to continue to learn and take on new responsibilities, and for my people, we are always willing to take on any kind of new work that needs to be done within the company. Because if you pigeon-hole yourself …, it's destructive."
Amstutz joins three other production/manufacturing executives in being recognized for just that—significant achievements in their careers and for contributions to the industry as it has meandered down a path of evolution.
The inductees to the Hall of Fame—the nation's most prestigious award recognizing magazine and book publishing professionals—are nominated by their peers and selected by the staff of Publishing Executive and its sister publication Book Business, along with each publication's editorial advisory boards. Joining Amstutz in the 2010 Publishing Executive Hall of Fame are Michael Lonier, CIO, vice president of operations for The Deal LLC, and Ken Brooks, senior vice president, global production and manufacturing services, Cengage Learning. Plus, for the first time ever, an honorary induction is being bestowed on Robert M. Sacks (known to many in the industry as BoSacks), president of the Precision Media Group, and partner in publishing research firm and consultancy mediaIDEAS, for his decades of service to the industry, among other significant achievements.
Please join Publishing Executive in celebrating this year's inductees and the impact they have had on the industry.
