A Family Affair
Travelhost Chicago, an in-room travel magazine will relaunch in this month under the guidance of three siblings from the city's Northwest side. Associate publishers Bill and Kelly Rourke are responsible for the relaunch, while older sister, Nancy, handles the responsibilities of the managing editor position.
In-room magazines published by Travelhost provide information to visitors of 80 cities in the U.S. The readership is approximately 8.5 million a month. The Chicago edition will be redesigned to target business professionals, and every month it will focus on business-oriented restaurants, entertainment spots, sports and the city's cultural highlights.
"When we realized that two-thirds of all travel expenditures in Chicago come from business and convention travelers, we saw a market that was severely under served," says Bill Rourke, explaining how the idea for the magazine evolved. "Other in-room publications serve leisure travelers who typically visit on weekends."
The magazine will serve a market that spends over $6.4 billion while visiting the city, adds James Sheahan, assistant general manager of McCormick Place, Chicago's main convention center. "Travelhost will be an essential resource for hotels and businesses," says Sheahan. "Ultimately, it's a great tool to promote more business, conventions and visitors to Chicago."
Under the direction of the Rourkes, a family that grew up on the city's Northwest side, Travelhost Chicago will detail side trips within walking distance of the major hotels and the convention center, in addition to the major attractions, so that travelers can get the most out of their visit.
