American Magazine Conference Goes ‘Beyond the Page’
The relationships between magazines and mobile and video were addressed at a pair of Tuesday morning sessions. Jim Ryan, vice president of consumer data service at Cingular Wireless spoke of the virtually limitless (and heretofore untapped) possibilities available to publishers by way of making their content available on cell phones. And representatives from Newsweek, SI.com, Time Out New York and Ehlert Publishing stressed the importance of presenting brief video clips—whether interviews, highlights, reviews, etc.—in order to hold the attention of site visitors.
The AMC, chaired this year by Playboy Enterprises Chairman and CEO Christie Hefner, also featured celebrity appearances in the form of Q&A sessions with Food Network personality turned author and talk show host Rachael Ray and Senator Barak Obama, who sidestepped questions about his 2008 candidacy for President.
