iPad 2 Said to Ship In February
Several media outlets reported this month that Apple's next generation iPad will ship by the end of February 2011.
According to a Dec. 7 report in DigiTimes, manufacturer Foxconn Electronics in southern China is gearing up to ship 400,000-600,000 iPads in the next 100 days. The device's firmware is currently in testing, the report says, which pushed back by a few weeks a planned initial production start up in January.
All Things Digital reported Dec. 8 that this indicates a spring launch for the iPad 2, probably in April 2011. The next generation iPad is expected to be thinner, with a front-facing camera and Facetime chat support.
Apple announced it sold 4.19 million iPads in its fiscal 2010 fourth quarter, bringing its total 2010 sales of the device to 7.5 million units. The company also reported sales of 14.1 million iPhones in the fourth quarter, representing a 91 percent unit growth increase over the same period last year, in what it said was a record-breaking quarter for revenue and earnings.
