Atlantic Media Launches Defense One
WASHINGTON, D.C. — July 16, 2013 – Atlantic Media today launched DefenseOne, the company’s new digital media brand serving the U.S. defense and national security leadership community. The latest addition to Atlantic Media’s growing suite of brands produced to serve influentials in specific segments, Defense One was created to provide news, in depth analysis, and ideas customized for this audience as it faces the new era of national security.
“When we set out to create Defense One, we sought to provide a service for national security leaders to help them identify and translate the dynamic trends that define the future of our nation's defense,” said Tim Hartman, President of Atlantic Media’s Government Executive Media Group, which produces Defense One.
"The hardest maneuver in modern journalism is to increase the intelligence of coverage even as you speed up its velocity 5-10 fold. That's the Defense One ambition - brilliant at light speed," said David Bradley, Atlantic Media Chairman.
Defense One is designed to inform and convene national security leaders, influential professionals, stakeholders and interested citizens across the defense spectrum with timely analysis and innovative ideas. In addition to its digital presence, there will be an events component and research and print initiatives down the road.
“The transformation from the 9/11 decade of war into a new, 21st century global security era has begun,” said Defense One executive editor Kevin Baron. “With an open-door policy to new and innovative voices and hard-hitting, reported analysis, Defense One is an entirely new concept for national security coverage, a conversation destination, a news site that will go deeper.
Editorially, Defense One is structured around five key topic areas: global threats, politics (domestic and international), management, technology and ideas. Key to Defense One’s approach will be explaining these trends in the present context but also exploring the implications of these trends for the future.
