Bonnier Brand Saveur’s First eBook, SAVEUR: Easy Italian, Has Just Hit No. 2 in the Apple iBook Store
(PRESS RELEASE) Earlier this year, the editors at Saveur magazine, embarked on the first-time journey of creating an eBook, their latest collaboration with Bonnier’s book division in San Francisco, Weldon Owen. The Saveur staff is no stranger to print publishing—both the magazine and SAVEUR: The New Comfort Food cookbook represent the delicious, comprehensive approach to global cuisine that is the core of Saveur’s brand. Yet the opportunity to enter the eBook market presented the Saveur editorial team with the task of translating and distilling its thoughtful, authentic, and user-friendly approach to cooking for the online consumer.
Thus, the first in a series of eBooks, SAVEUR: Easy Italian, was released on December 6 for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. It is currently available only in the Apple iBook store, but will eventually be for sale on Kindle and Nook as well. SAVEUR: Easy Italian quickly hit the number 3 spot in the Cooking, Food, and Wine category, and then moved to #2 Friday. The title features 30 recipes for classic dishes that are simple to prepare, using ingredients that are likely already in your pantry, including soulful minestrone soup, seasonal pastas, and luscious panna cotta. The eBook also features Saveur’s signature photography, with gorgeous shots of culinary Italy and Italian America, as well as a comprehensive pantry section and suggestions for optimal wine pairings. The subject was chosen as the first Saveur eBook in part because of its universal appeal.
“We wanted to create a book that everyone could use, from the advanced home cook to people batting around in the kitchen for the first time,” says Saveur editor-in-chief James Oseland. This is just the first in a series of Saveur eBooks. Staff members have brainstormed “mountains of ideas,” says Oseland, which will capitalize on the magazine’s well-rounded culinary expertise, wonderful photography, and delicious recipes, and share them in a clean and crisp eBook format with the magazine’s growing digital audience.
