International Trends in E-book Consumption: Bowker to unveil data from its first-ever major study of this scope
For the past year, Kelly Gallagher, vice president of publishing services at RR Bowker, has been leading a team of researchers on a three-year initiative studying consumer attitudes toward e-devices and digital content. Specifically, this long-term study looks at patterns of European, Asian, Australian, and North and South American consumers. Gallagher will present his findings from the study for the first time at the Publishing Business Conference & Expo, March 19-21, in New York.
This study is the first of its kind to look to better understand and compare e-book markets in countries with different growth patterns. Here, he talks about the significance of the study and how it will help publishers gain a true understanding of how book consumers across the globe are using and purchasing digital content versus traditional formats.
"This is an exciting time for growth in digital content in the U.S. and globally, and we are eager to share the findings from this market research endeavor," Gallagher told Publishing Business Today. "These results will provide the international publishing industry with key metrics for understanding digital opportunities as they emerge globally."
Gallagher's role in the company is to manage the implementation of a host of Bowker business intelligence services—including the PubTrack consumer research panel. Gallagher also oversees sales data collection and analytics tools for the higher-education and religious book markets for Bowker.
Don't miss Gallagher's first-ever comprehensive analysis on international trends in e-book consumption during his session on March 20 at the Publishing Business Conference & Expo. Attendees will be among the first in the international publishing industry to hear the key findings on growth rates of e-books on a global level and be in the forefront of understanding the impact of these findings, Gallagher says.
