Courier Graphics Installs Rotoman Press
Commercial and publication printer Courier Graphics Corp. in Phoenix purchased a five-color MAN Roland Rotoman to upgrade one of its two
M-1000 web presses.
Company officials decided the installation made sense after Courier Graphics tested the quality and durability of the press. Officials also attended Drupa 2004 to compare final press results with those conducted by other companies.
"As we completed our due diligence, it became clear [we would choose] the Rotoman press," says Larry Babka, vice president of sales and marketing of Courier Graphics. "We believe the best value to us … will ultimately provide the best value to our clients."
Babka expects the press to double overall production capacity. The Rotoman press performs both saddle stitch and perfect binding for catalogs and magazines. It has a new folding combination that allows for greater compatibility with a wider variety of paper sizes.
In addition to the new press, Courier Graphics ordered MAN Roland's QuickStart accelerated makeready system that utilizes both run-up and shutdown sequencing, blanket washer control and ink key controls, removing human involvement at these stages to allow for faster production.
"We are expecting to reduce our makeready time by half," Babka says. The press was expected to be in operation by May.
