David Saabye to Lead ALM’s Digital- & Data-Driven Mission as New Chief Digital Officer
On Tuesday B2B publisher ALM announced the appointment of new chief digital officer David Saabye. Saabye, formerly the vice president of operations at ALM and before that vice president of digital, will lead the publisher’s digital efforts across all brands. “David’s extensive media and digital expertise will help us create more, and enhanced, cross-vertical offerings to enable customers to experience the full benefit of our unified platform,” said ALM CEO Bill Carter in a press release.
Saabye added in the same press release that he is eager to continue ALM’s work of “combining powerful digital, data-driven intelligence and insights from across our vast platform” to help readers make well-informed decisions and run their businesses more successfully.
Carter told Publishing Executive last year that data-driven intelligence would become one of the major revenue drivers at ALM. With the purchase of research and consultancy firm Kennedy Consulting, Research & Advisory (KCRA) at the end of 2014, Carter said that that the B2B publisher was poised to grow its market intelligence offering. He continued that the talent and processes acquired from KCRA would help ALM convert disparate data sets across various brands into a unified database that can provide custom reports and insights to its readers. “We have an opportunity to become the Gartner Group for the legal industry to produce these types of reports, link this data, and provide those insights,” Carter told Publishing Executive.
It will be interesting to see how Saabye expands ALM’s emerging market intelligence products and what new ways he utilizes data insights to serve readers and marketers. It is likely that whatever services Saabye develops at ALM, he will advocate for simplicity of digital content and simplicity of its delivery to readers, a philosophy he shared with Publishing Executive in a 2014 essay.
Publishing Executive also featured Saabye’s predecessor, Jeff Litvack, in a Corner Office feature, where Litvack spoke of the imperative to connect digital content with smart data in order to enhance user experience, drive new revenue streams, and develop new content verticals.
