Press Release: Magazine Launches Outnumber Magazine Closures in First Quarter of 2015
New York City, April 10, 2015 - In the first quarter of 2015, 35 magazines launched and 13 magazines closed, reported MediaFinder.com-the largest online database of U.S. and Canadian publications. Compared to the first quarter of 2014, the number of magazine closures was down from 14 to 13 this year. At the same time, 45 new magazines launched last year, compared to 35 launches in the first quarter of 2015.
"Although magazine launches declined this year compared to the same period last year, publishers continued to turn to magazines to cover new products and new trends," said Trish Hagood, president of MediaFinder.com.
In the first quarter of 2015, new magazine launches included Parents Latina, Frozen, Double Runner, and Physician's Life. Among the 12 magazines that closed were Fitness, Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking, and Bklynr.
Among business-to-business magazines, three titles launched in the first quarter of this year, including Drone 360, compared to nine magazines that launched during the first quarter last year. Two b-to-b magazines ceased publication in the first quarter of this year, including Better Roads, while four ceased publication during the same quarter last year.
