McMurry, Ritz-Carlton Partner on Semi-annual Bridal Magazine
Phoenix-based custom publisher McMurry announced last week the launch of Weddings by The Ritz-Carlton, a new biannual magazine that will be distributed to more than 70 Ritz-Carlton properties worldwide. The premiere issue is set for June. Carrie Tuhy, who was involved with the launches of InStyle and Real Simple, has been tabbed editorial director.
Tracie McLaughlin, publisher, spoke with Publishing Executive Inbox about the thinking behind the new mag, launching a publication during an economic downturn, and competing in a crowded bridal market.
INBOX: Given the current economic climate and a magazine industry that's seeing fewer ads and more magazine closures, what made now the right time to launch Weddings by The Ritz-Carlton?
TRACIE MCLAUGHLIN: No doubt we are facing challenging times, but even in this economic uncertainty, brides, grooms and their families still want and desire their wedding day to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and The Ritz-Carlton delivers this. Weddings by The Ritz-Carlton will help make their dreams come true by assisting and guiding them to the best of the best -- both through amazing editorial and luxury advertisers.
INBOX: How did you test the magazine and what type of response have you gotten?
MCLAUGHLIN: We actually published Weddings by The Ritz-Carlton magazine in 2006 and received such an amazing response from consumers, advertisers, and the ladies and gentlemen at The Ritz-Carlton properties that we decided to make Weddings by The Ritz-Carlton a semi-annual publication. The Ritz-Carlton Wedding Advisors (marketing and PR personnel who specialize in weddings and celebrations at Ritz-Carlton properties) told us the issue proved to be an invaluable marketing tool in helping brides and grooms create and execute seamlessly one of their most memorable days of their lives.
INBOX: Can you disclose any advertisers at this point?
MCLAUGHLIN: Sorry, we are not disclosing any advertisers at this time.
