Name Change for FamilyFun
FamilyFun magazine, the 18-year-old family title published by Disney, today announced some significant changes. The name of the magazine will change to Disney FamilyFun and the publishing division's name will change from Disney Publishing Worldwide’s U.S. Consumer Magazine Group to Disney FamilyFun Group. Aparna Pande, vice president, general manager, Disney FamilyFun Group, Disney Publishing Worldwide, will oversee the transformation.
“After a thorough examination of the brand's strengths and opportunities, we felt it was important that we also leverage another preeminent family brand: that of our parent company," says Pande, who joined Disney last summer from Meredith. "There is real value in uniting ‘Disney’ and ‘FamilyFun’ so that readers and advertisers immediately identify and benefit from our rich legacy and positive association with families. This new strategy will drive the continued growth of the FamilyFun brand.”
Here are some of the specific changes that will accompany the name change (they are also outlined in the release below):
FamilyFun will introduce a new section in the magazine called "Fun for Little Ones" to provide more content for readers with children under the age of 6. There are also plans to introduce a new Disney page that will offer their favorite company deals, giveaways, and programs for families, as well as a fun Disney-inspired project.
In addition, Disney announced the roll-out of a dedicated custom publishing division, a line of family cookbooks, and a series of special interest publications, beginning with Halloween.
“With this new strategic direction, we are poised to expand the presence of the FamilyFun brand through other media channels and brand extensions,” added Pande. “Regardless of the current state of the economy, spending time together crafting, cooking and participating in community activities will always be important to families.”
