Noelle Skodzinski Speaks Out: Bob Sacks' Optimism in the Face of Illness
On Oct. 4, when I gave the introduction to Bob Sacks' honorary induction into the Publishing Executive Hall of Fame in Chicago, I led off with a statement that went something like, "Bob Sacks is not your typical publishing executive." Today, we see yet another example of that.
In his daily e-newsletter, "Heard on the Web," Bob writes his "BoSacks Speaks Out" reflections from a hospital bed. And with his usual optimism and humor, which he has shared with Publishing Executive readers for six years in his column, as well as for the past couple of years in his blog, he talks of Klingon philosophies and the "amazing happenings of the publishing world."
I might agree with Bob's theory of which hospital ward he should be in, but regardless, I am continuously amazed at the passion and dedication he has for this industry, and grateful that he has continued to work with me and Publishing Executive in advisory capacities as well as as a longtime columnist and blogger. As I have evolved in this position directing editorial for Publishing Executive for six years, I believe Bob has worked closely with me because he knows I share his passion and-usually-his optimism. And when my optimism risks faltering, I often turn to Bob for a perspective adjustment (kind of like a car tune-up).
The entire staff at Publishing Executive is wishing for and completely confident in Bob's speedy recovery ... though we might suggest he take a day or two off in the meantime.
