Not-So "Brill"iant Content Falls Short
Brill Media Holdings announced that it will close down Contentville.com, a site that since its inception in July 2000, was criticized and later excused for republishing printed content online. The online bazaar for books, magazines and articles offered a wide variety of such content, everything from higher education-level reports and dissertations, transcripts, magazine and newspaper articles to original features for a fee. Founder Steven Brill released a company memo recently explaining that, as opposed to advertising slumps, the concept of Contentville "just didn't work." Approximately 15 employees will be dismissed.
