"Boring" is a word I would use to describe many font collections I've used. Since I design for a creative magazine, I would like to find out if there are any new companies that are doing more interesting work than the traditional suites. I really don't have the time to search, but I want to break out and do something new. Please enlighten me!
Dear Desperate Designer,
House Industries, a very creative font foundry, recently released a new catalog. The latest type, The Simian Collection, is inspired by Planet of the Apes, but in the past, House has issued an array of fonts designed to simulate retro and futuristic styles. Rat Fink, Bad Neighborhood and Tiki Type are all collections that are inventively packaged and often come with additional, relevant clip art. The company also publishes a magazine, House, featuring design-related articles, with novel layouts (the designers are also fine illustrators). Visit the Web site at www.houseindustries.com. Readers are also welcome to submit favorite font resources. We often list such resources in Creative Director, so please send your artful suggestions.
