O'Connor Abrams to Chair Magazine Portion of Publishing Business Conference
Michela O'Connor Abrams, President of Dwell Media, will serve as a chair for the magazine portion of the Publishing Business Conference & Expo. As conference chair, O'Connor Abrams will provide critical input on the conference program to help ensure that the 2012 event delivers the most relevant and forward-thinking program available to publishing executives.
In addition to her role as conference chair, O'Connor Abrams will speak on the Magazine Executive Keynote Panel. The magazine panel will discuss new revenue models, the shifting advertiser marketplace and the future of print publications and digital editions as consumers rapidly trade in books for tablets and other e-devices. The panel will help answer questions and generate innovative strategies to keep the publishing business thriving as it adapts to these changes.
Last week, O'Connor Abrams was the recipient of the prestigious Exceptional Woman in Publishing Award (EWIP). Since 1999, this honor has recognized an exceptional female leader in the publishing world. O'Connor Abrams is the fourteenth recipient of the award, the first woman from the West Coast to win the title. Past recipients include Gloria Steinem, Katrina vanden Heuvel of The Nation, Laurel Touby, founder of mediabistro.com, and Ardath and Marie Rodale of Rodale, Inc.
Exceptional Women in Publishing is a nonprofit organization that seeks to recognize women for outstanding achievement and leadership. The board of directors will present O'Connor Abrams with her award on March 7 during the fourth annual Women's Leadership Conference in San Fransisco.
Founded in 2000 by Lara Hedberg Deam, Dwell Media has a plethora of awards under its name, including General Excellence at the National Magazine Awards, a 2009 finalist in the corporate category for the prestigious National Design Awards, and National recognition for both circulation growth and newsstand sales. O'Connor Abrams spearheaded the annual design show Dwell on Design in 2005. This event is the largest design show on the West Coast, hosting more than 20,000 design experts this past June. In addition, O'Connor Abrams led the development and growth of Dwell Media's Web, mobile and tablet digital platforms that were recognized as "#1 Most Innovative" in Affinity Research's August 2011 survey.
