Open Road Forms Publishing Partnership with Pulitzer Prize Winning ProPublica
(Press Release) Open Road Integrated Media, a digital publisher and multimedia content company, and ProPublica, the leading investigative journalism non-profit, announced today that they are forming a new digital publishing partnership. As part of an ongoing relationship, Open Road will publish multiple ebooks featuring ProPublica’s award winning investigative journalism.
The ebooks will include new introductions and expanded stories as well as additional features including embedded photos, digital video, key documents, maps, sidebars and interviews with journalists and editors. Open Road will also create original marketing videos which will explore the stories and feature interviews with the authors and topic experts.
Jane Friedman, cofounder and CEO of Open Road, said: “ProPublica is one of the world’s leading investigative outlets, and we are excited to collaborate with them to reach a wider audience for their long form award winning journalism. Paul Steiger, Jeffrey Sharp (cofounder of Open Road) and I began our respective organizations at the same time, and I am delighted that our early conversations have come to fruition.”
Paul Steiger, editor-in-chief and CEO of ProPublica, said: “Ebooks are a very promising platform for publishing journalism with high impact, and therefore a critical venue for ProPublica. We are delighted to be moving ahead in this new arena with Jane Friedman and her incredibly talented colleagues at Open Road.”
Two of the first ebooks will be: Presidential Pardons: Shades of Mercy, based on ProPublica’s revealing investigative series on injustices rampant in presidential pardons originally published in the Washington Post, and Post Mortem: Death in America, ProPublica's in-depth look at the nation’s dysfunctional coroner and medical examiner offices, much of it undertaken in partnership with NPR and Frontline.
