Pictorial Offset Receives SmartWood Re-certification
Carlstadt, NJ -- January 24, 2006 -- Pictorial Offset Corporation, a privately owned commercial printer has been re-certified by SmartWood, an independent auditing organization, as meeting the Forest Stewardship Council's (FSC) chain-of-custody requirements.
The SmartWood division of the Rainforest Alliance performed the re-certification audit and observed the practices in place at Pictorial's purchasing, warehouse and shipping departments. A review of the records from the past year, a tour of the facility and interviews with key purchasing and compliance officers were also included in the audit.
Special areas of excellence were noted in Pictorial's inventory tracking and documentation processes. Gary Samuels, managing partner of Pictorial, commented, "It was a very easy audit for us. We had originally been certified in 2004 and have enjoyed a dramatic increase in business from being certified this past year."
Pictorial has had dual certification by the International Standards Organization (ISO) for both quality (9001:2000) and environment (14001:2004) since 1998, when it was the first commercial printer in the world certified to achieve an integrated ISO 9002 and 14001 management system, according to the company.
"With the ISO processes in place, we already had strong experience with documentation and process compliance. Just last year, we trained over 100 of our people in the processes of Forest Stewardship Council's chain of custody," said Samuels. "We are fully committed to our quality and environmental sustainability programs, and this re-certification is another measure of that commitment."
