Robb Report Acquired By CurtCo Media
CurtCo Media Labs, a developer of publishing companies since 1987, acquired international affluent lifestyle magazines Robb Report and Showcase from Luxury Media. The acquisition is the first step in a new partnership between CurtCo Media and TC Capital Communications Partners. The new company will be called CurtCo Robb Media LLC.
In announcing the acquisition, CurtCo CEO William Curtis says he intends "to reinforce Robb Report's status as the leading magazine serving the highest demographic audience. Robb is for people who actively celebrate the lifestyle that wealth can provide. Showcase magazine is Robb's shopping mall, offering immediate access to the best of the best. This is our dream acquisition. In fact, it's the best brand in publishing. Robb has the clearest position with the most difficult-to-reach audience in the world."
Capitalizing on the magazine's unique positioning, CurtCo plans to leverage the Robb Report brand into a series of special interest categories. "We will concentrate on commanding the 'best of the best' position in a variety of markets. In addition to a vertical launch strategy, CurtCo will be interested in acquiring new titles that can be adapted to fit the Robb position," Curtis explains.
Robb Report, which celebrated its 25th anniversary this year, will serve as the centerpiece of a series of products and services that CurtCo will create to support the magazine's brand name. Future endeavors will exceed beyond publishing to include radio, video, Web and a series of Robb live events, as well as a host of services exclusively serving Robb Report members and subscribers.
"Bill Curtis is a proven operator with an impeccable track record of building market-leading publications," says Marc Michael, managing director of TD Capital Communications Partners. "With Bill and his team, we can build a substantial franchise in the luxury publishing sector."
While CurtCo Media expects to keep editorial staffing in place, the company did announce the appointment of CurtCo's Brett Anderson as senior vice president/editorial for the publications. In addition, Robb Report and Showcase Editor/Publisher Paul Dean will assume the position of editor-at-large.
