Society of Interventional Radiology’s New IR Quarterly Focuses on Features, In-depth News
FAIRFAX, Va., Jan. 22, 2013—The Society of Interventional Radiology announces the launch of IR Quarterly—a new magazine that communicates updates critical to the practice of interventional radiology, augmented with stories, interviews and in-depth analysis in each four-color, 40-page issue. IR Quarterly delivers quality reporting on political advocacy, practice management and the latest specialty news and information.
“IR Quarterly will serve as an essential resource that showcases the value of nonsurgical treatments and addresses the myriad issues that loom large in health care today,” said SIR President Marshall E. Hicks, M.D., FSIR, who represents the national Society of nearly 5,000 doctors, scientists and allied health professionals dedicated to improving health care through minimally invasive treatments. “The publication will reflect the strength and breadth of the interventional radiology community and the Society’s long-term vision for interventional radiology as the first choice in image-guided therapy,” added Hicks, who is also head of the division of diagnostic imaging at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
The magazine’s debut winter issue features “Re-election Economics,” an interventional radiologist’s view of the Affordable Care Act and its impact on practice and a bonus feature that details how clinical trial participation is smart for doctors and patients. Subsequent issues will carry articles on interventional radiologists partnering with hospitals and equipment manufacturers to improve radiation safety; the importance of remaining compliant with HIPAA, Stark and other regulations; and how to recognize—and avoid—publishing misconduct.
“SIR publications have earned readers’ loyalty by staying relevant, and IR Quarterly will continue in that tradition with timely, germane content of interest to interventional radiology practitioners, trainees, clinical associates, scientists and allied medical health professionals,” said Hicks.
