Texterity Offers Spanish User Interface for Digital Magazines
SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass. -- Texterity Inc. has introduced a Spanish language user interface for digital magazines, which will allow readers to browse, navigate, save and search Spanish language magazines in the language in which they are published.
Spanish will be the first language offered as part of Texterity's internationalization of its magazine delivery solution. The Texterity digital delivery technology allows readers to simply click on a link to immediately view the magazine and leaf through its pages. Readers can also download the issue to archive it and read it or search its contents at a later time.
With the new interface, all of the controls for reading and using the digital edition are in Spanish, along with enhanced help and support. In addition, Texterity provides e-mail notification services and marketing support services in Spanish.
Customers using the new interface include Meredith Corporation's Siempre
Mujer!, Stagnito Communications' Industria Alimenticia, and Watt Publishing's
"Hispanic magazine publishing is perhaps the fastest-growing segment of the
market today," said Martin Hensel, president of Texterity. "Our new interface
allows readers of Spanish language magazines to read digital editions without
having to shift back and forth to English."
Publishers are responding to a major demographic shift. The Hispanic population in the United States rose 60 percent between 1990 and 2000, according to the most recent U.S. Census Bureau data, and jumped another 9.8 percent by 2002, to 38.8 million. The overall U.S. population increased just 2.5 percent from 2000 to 2002. One in five new homeowners will be Hispanic within the next decade, and Hispanic spending power is expected to increase from $600 billion annually to $1 trillion by 2010, according to the Census Bureau.
As part of the internationalization of its solution, Texterity will be adding additional languages in the coming months including French, German and Portuguese. Texterity has also started work on supporting Chinese, Japanese and Russian as part of its core technology to enable additional markets in Q4 2005.
