TheAtlantic.com Launches New Video Channel Featuring Curated and Original Content
(Press Release) Washington, D.C. (August 4, 2011)—In its latest expansion online, TheAtlantic.com today unveiled a new video channel featuring compelling and ideas-driven video content curated from around the Web. Edited by Kasia Cieplak-Mayr von Baldegg, the channel will showcase a diverse selection of new and innovative work from filmmakers, artists, and documentarians, plus archival footage and original Atlantic-produced segments. The Video channel will also become the new home of multimedia magazine extras, including on-camera interviews with Atlantic writers and behind-the-scenes footage from their reporting trips.
"Kasia's keen eye and deep contacts in the video community will help us find new ways to bring Atlantic content to our digital audiences," said Bob Cohn, editorial director of Atlantic Digital. "The great success of Alan Taylor's In Focus photo blog has reminded us of the power of visual storytelling, and our newly expanded video channel is a further step in that direction."
In her role as editor, Cieplak-Mayr von Baldegg will curate a diverse selection of video work, interview creators, and cover trends in the ever-evolving world of web video. Prior to joining The Atlantic, Cieplak-Mayr von Baldegg was a producer in the "Viewer Created Content" division of Al Gore's Current TV, where she acquired and produced short documentaries by independent filmmakers around the world. At advertising startup Urgent Content, she developed consumer-created and branded nonfiction campaigns for clients including Cisco, Ford, and GOOD Magazine. She studied filmmaking and digital media at Harvard University, where she was co-creator and editor in chief of H BOMB Magazine.
Broadening its visual content, TheAtlantic.com welcomed acclaimed photo blogger Alan Taylor to its award-winning editorial lineup earlier this year. Since launching in February, the In Focus photo blog has experienced explosive growth. According to internal measurement tool Omniture, In Focus has increased 291% among page views and 240% among unique visitors in the past five months.
Cathay Pacific Airways, a long-time partner of The Atlantic, is the exclusive advertiser for the launch of the Video channel.
