Time Inc. Honored As Publishing Innovator of the Year
Time Inc., the largest magazine publishing company in the United States, was honored Monday evening at the first-ever “Publishing Innovator of the Year Awards” by Publishing Executive and Book Business magazines at a special awards reception held during the Publishing Business Conference & Expo in New York. The reception was attended by more than 200 publishing executives from all corners of the industry.
The Publishing Innovator of the Year Awards honor and celebrate leadership and innovation in the rapidly evolving publishing industry. HarperCollins, one of the largest book publishers in the world, received Publishing Innovator of the Year honors for book publishers. The awards were announced by Mark Hertzog and Noelle Skodzinski, publisher and editor-in-chief of Publishing Executive and Book Business.
Among the chief reasons for Time Inc.’s selection is the company’s innovation in subscription business-development. Its Giftscriptions endeavor—launched in the Fall of 2005—offers consumers an easy way to order gift subscriptions online. Consumers can either choose which subscriptions they want to give, or let the gift recipient choose on their own.
Time Inc. will be launching its new online subscription service called Maghound this September. Maghound will enable consumers to visit one Web site to choose which magazines they would like to receive, and they will be able to receive all their magazine choices for a single monthly fee.
“Time Inc.’s Giftscriptions and Maghound services are really pointing to a new direction for the future of our magazine marketplace,” says Skodzinski. “The company has contributed a great deal to this industry throughout its history and especially in its leadership in innovation in the digital evolution. Many other companies look to Time for this leadership and reference its new initiatives during discussions of the change we’re facing. I can’t tell you how many times I heard the Maghound service mentioned during the Publishing Business Conference. We are truly pleased to be able to recognize Time Inc. with the first annual Publishing Innovator of the Year Award.”
