Toray’s Sustainable Approach to Printing
Quality and environmental benefits highlighted at 64th World Newspaper Congress
Neu-Isenburg, Germany, August 1st, 2012 –Toray Industries Inc. will show how its ecological and economical waterless technology can help the newspaper industry meet the challenges of a rapidly changing marketplace on its Info Services Expo, Stand 3, at the 64th World Newspaper Congress and 19th World Editors Forum, September 2-5, Kiev, Ukraine.
“High quality waterless printing delivers a sustainable way of improving profitability,” comments Mr Junichi Ishii, Sales Manager for Graphics and Chemical sections, Toray International Europe GmbH. “We want to communicate how the long-term ecological benefits such as elimination of chemicals and the reduction in water consumption can be achieved while overall quality is improved. The World Newspaper Congress which includes a well attended editors forum, is the biggest international event for newspaper publishers. With so many key decision makers in one place it is the perfect platform to show newspaper publishers that adopting a superior printing technology can be an effective approach to enhance their business models.”
Print samples from real life applications of waterless printing by major newspaper printers in Western Europe will be showcased. Highlights will include remarkable quality advertisements, in cold set with coating, from German newspaper printer Freiburger Druck. Mr Ishii says: “The print quality achieved in these samples are recognized as unachievable with a standard newspaper press but possible with KBA Cortina press and Toray waterless plates.”
Other samples will include special editions printed on green newsprint and high end fashion magazine adverts by Eco Print Center, Belgium.
Waterless printing also helps a company position itself as environmentally conscientious while achieving the very best quality in both heat set and cold set. The latter is evidenced by seven waterless KBA Cortina press users from Finland, Germany and Switzerland who were awarded membership in the “International Newspaper Color Quality Club 2012-2014” which is a once-every-two-years opportunity.
Mr Ishii concludes: “Investing in this technology enables waterless newspaper printers to successfully diversify into semi-commercial printing allowing for the smooth transition into a greater range of print possibilities. This expansion of production capabilities helps operations broaden their portfolios and in turn their profitable opportunities. What could be more attractive for an industry under such unprecedented pressure?”
