EFI to Report Fourth Quarter and Full Year 2013 Earnings Results on January 28, 2014

Fewer Magazines Launched in 2013 Than 2012

NEW YORK CITY, Dec.18, 2013 – In 2013, 185 magazines launched, compared to 227 magazines in 2012, reported—the largest online database of U.S. and Canadian publications. During the same period, only 56 magazines closed, compared to 82 magazines in 2012. The top categories for new magazine launches in 2013 were food (23 new magazines), regional (17 magazines), and women (13 new magazines). In the fourth quarter of 2013, new titles launched included Politico Magazine, Scottsdale Magazine, Punch, Allrecipes, and Domino. Other new launches in 2013 included three new magazines targeting the Hamptons, NY region.

Springer’s Open Access Titles Move To New CC-BY 4.0 License

Articles submitted to BioMed Central, Chemistry Central, and SpringerOpen journals from 03 February 2014 onwards will be subject to the newCC-BY 4.0 Creative Commons Attribution license. This also applies to open access articles published in the majority of Springer's subscription-based journals using the Open Choiceoption. The new license is more digital-friendly, and includes a simplified attribution requirement.

Springer to convert two journals in high energy physics to open access

The SCOAP3 consortium (Sponsoring Consortium for Open Access Publishing in Particle Physics), which aims to convert journals in high energy physics to open access, has chosen two Springer journals to participate in the initiative.  They are the Journal of High Energy Physics, published for the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA - Trieste, Italy), and the European Physical Journal C, published with Società Italiana di Fisica. The selection is the result of an open and transparent tender process run by CERN for the benefit of SCOAP3, in which journal quality, price and publishing services were taken into account.
