Mail Online, the world's largest global newspaper website, today announced the appointment of two experienced U.S. digital executives to run ad sales and marketing, signaling an emerging strategy to monetize its strong audience growth in North America. Rich Sutton will oversee advertising as Chief Revenue Officer and Sean O'Neal will head marketing as Global Chief Marketing Officer.

Digital-Only Magazine Readership Up Nearly 50 Percent

Magazines’ newsstand sales may be struggling, but there’s a bright spot when it comes to digital readership. Today, GfK MRI released its fall 2012 Survey of the American Consumer, which tracks print and digital magazine readership, and found that magazine readership had increased by 1.6 percent (or nearly 20 million people) to 1.2 billion people since last spring. That was helped by a significant bump in digital consumption: Readership of magazines' digital editions jumped 47 percent, or 4.4 million people, to more than 13.5 million.

WebMD CEO resigns, company stops sale exploration

WebMD Health Corp. CEO Wayne T. Gattinella has resigned, and the healthcare information services provider said it stopped talking to potential acquirers about a sale of the company.

The New York company also said Tuesday it expects 2012 earnings to be "significantly lower" than in 2011 as it faces tough competition and its drug company customers deal with patent expirations. WebMD provides health and benefits information to consumers, employers, doctors and health plans.
