Guitar World magazine has created a lot of positive buzz—or perhaps we should say feedback—with the launch of its Guitar World Lick of the Day app. With high-quality videos and great graphics, the app teaches wannabe Eric Claptons, Les Pauls, B.B. Kings and Wes Montgomerys how to play a new signature guitar line each day.
Most importantly for Guitar World, the app is a must-have addition to the practice routine for any avid reader of the magazine, what blogger D. Eadward Tree called a "logical brand extension" that goes well beyond simply shoehorning a print product into a tablet format. The app is free to download and users choose from one-month, three-month or six-month subscription plans, making it potentially a great revenue generator for the magazine.
Other publishers might want to sit up, plug in and take note of new and creative ways they can make their content and information assets rock on the iPad.
