Sports Illustrated (SI) and SI.com have agreed to a deal with Dan Patrick, among the most recognizable names in sports media, to make him a senior writer for both the magazine and the Web site. The agreement is significant for SI, as Patrick was employed for nearly 20 years by SI’s main rival, ESPN. “Dan Patrick is a sports genius,” says Terry McDonnell, editor of the Sports Illustrated Group. “He’s fast, funny, analytic, old-school informed and, most important, he believes in the values reflected in the sports he covers.
