John Q. Griffin, the last of Jack Griffin’s big outside hires remaining at Time Inc., is leaving after four months there. Jack Griffin brought him on during his short-lived tenure as CEO to be president of a newly formed News Group that was meant to put a bigger emphasis on the company’s flagship Time magazine.

CEO Jack Griffin continued his reorganization of Time Inc. with the appointment of John Q. Griffin, the former executive vice president and president of publishing for the National Geographic Society (no relation), as executive vice president and president of the Time Inc. News Group.
EVP Griffin faces the task of revitalizing Time Inc.'s flagship newsweekly, which has already undergone several rounds of belt-tightening and reinvention.
Jack Griffin has made another round of changes at Time Inc., where he succeeded Ann Moore as CEO in September, today splitting the news and sports group in two; shuffling publishers at Time, Sports Illustrated and Money; and recruiting former National Geographic executive John Q. Griffin to join the company.
