Are You Smarter Than Facebook and Twitter?
Two of the biggest online brands, Facebook and Twitter, could be part of traditional publishers' ad revenue plans.
In just a few hours, FundRaising Success, owned by Publishing Executive's parent company, added a live Twitter feed using the official "hash tag" (#09NTC) of this year's Nonprofit Technology Conference in San Francisco. Although not ad-supported (yet), we were able to put this together very quickly thanks to the collaborative efforts of our e-media team.
I find it somewhat ironic that Twitter's quest for a sustainable business model could get trumped by users who are coming up with their own creative ideas on how to use the social messaging tool.
Online advertising, whether it's search or display, has been commoditized by companies like Twitter that got boat-loads of venture capital and then were in no rush to find a way to make money so they could pay their bills with actual revenue from their products.
If we can find ways to make money by using their products and not pay them a cent for it, that's fair, right?
