Kara Swisher is going to re-imagine tech journalism, and I can't imagine a better person to do it.
With her partner Walt Mossberg, and the backing of NBCUniversal News Group and Windsor Media, she has launched a new tech and media news, reviews, and analysis site called Re/code.
And it won't stop there. Swisher and Mossberg's company, Revere Digital, is already planning the Code Conference, scheduled for May 27 to 29 in California.
This is the same team that built AllThingsD, the online publication specializing in technology and startup company news, analysis and coverage. AllThingsD was founded as an extension of the D: All Things Digital conference and was a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dow Jones and a member of The Wall Street Journal's Digital Network.
Called by Windsor's Terry Semel "Two of the best informed and most respected people in tech," Swisher and Mossberg intend to continue the same caliber of news coverage and product reviews that was the hallmark of All Things Digital.
I'm looking forward to seeing what she and her team do with Revere and Re/Code. I'm also looking forward to seeing her, once again, at Exceptional Women in Publishing's Leadership Conference in San Francisco this March. Swisher has come to EWIP's conferences in the past, to speak to the group and get everyone thinking and laughing with her trademark mix of intelligent analysis and irreverent humor. I always love listening to her, and come away with lots of quotable one-liners.
This year is sure to be even better, because Swisher is going to be the sixteenth woman to receive EWIP's Exceptional Woman in Publishing award. EWIP award recipients have included some of most remarkable women in our industry, among them Gloria Steinem, Susan Taylor, Eleanor Clift, and the Rodale mother/daughter team, Maria and Ardath Rodale.
So congratulations, Kara Swisher, for your new venture with Revere and for the recognition you have achieved among your publishing peers with the EWIP Award. I'll see you in San Francisco.
