IDG TechNetwork Video Nears 100 Million Streams per Month
(Press Release) NEW YORK, N.Y.—July 27, 2011—There is a video boom at IDG TechNetwork, the advertising network with more than 460 websites dedicated to business, consumer, and entertainment technologies. Since last May, video streams have grown rapidly to almost 100 million streams a month.
Both publishers and advertisers benefit from IDG TechNetwork’s syndicated content delivered by the Tech Video Network (TVN) to more than 30 websites such as TechSupport Forums.com, Quickpwn.com, and DeviceMag.com. TVN features high-quality content from the IDG TechNetwork. As advertisers increase their demand for video, TVN provides premium technology focused video with in-stream ads.
Video Growth Prompts Partnerships
To meet the needs of publishers and marketers, IDG TechNetwork has recently concluded agreements with Brightcove and LiveRail. Brightcove and IDG TechNetwork have signed an extension to a prior contract licensing the Brightcove Video Cloud online video platform. “IDG TechNetwork is in a position to be a dominant video source in the technology industry thanks to its fast-growing video initiatives,” said Jeff Whatcott, senior vice president of marketing at Brightcove. “We are proud to expand our partnership with the organization as they continue to introduce new video offerings in the future.”
To meet the significant increase in video advertising volume, the IDG TechNetwork has signed an agreement with LiveRail for its video ad management system that will grow with TVN. LiveRail and Brightcove Video Cloud provide a robust platform for video streams and pre-roll ads. “We’re thrilled to be working with IDG TechNetwork to help grow their video business.” said Mark Trefgarne, CEO of LiveRail. “Combining LiveRail’s video advertising platform with Brightcove’s video platform, IDG will be well positioned to extend their leadership in technology media. This video offering will provide incredible opportunities for advertisers looking to reach valuable audiences.”
By the Numbers
From April to May, TVN revenue increased nine fold and revenue almost doubled from May to June 2011. eMarketer reports that video is the fastest growing online format with ad spend projected to increase by 50 percent this year compared to 2010. IDC recently reported online video ad spend passed $800 million worldwide in the first quarter this year with two-thirds of that revenue generated in the U.S.
