Mags Help Lift M&A Value
The media, information, marketing and technology sectors saw an increase in merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in the first three quarters of 2011 compared to the same period in 2010. There were 700 transactions announced with a total value of $35.3 billion— up 10 percent from the year before.
Much of this increase can be credited to the consumer magazine sector. Among this year's big transactions: Hearst Corp.'s acquisition of Lagardère's international magazine portfolio for $651 million, TPG Capital's acquisition of Primedia from Kohlberg Kravis Roberts for $525 million, and Exponent Private Equity's acquisition of BBC Worldwide for $198 million.
The total value of deals in the consumer magazine –sector were $2.2 billion through Q3 2011, up from $131 million during the same period in 2010.
