Answerology Acquired by Hearst Magazines
Hearst Magazines has acquired Answerology, a New York-based question-and-answer online platform focused on content and community. Answerology will be managed by Hearst Magazines Digital Media.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the founder of Answerology, Matthew Milner, will assume the role of VP, community and social media at Hearst Magazines Digital Media, where he will report to Chris Johnson, VP, content and business development.
Launched in 2005, Answerology enables members to pose questions to a targeted community around relationship-related topics such as dating, family, career and marriage. Community members are able to ask the questions anonymously and can select the demographic from which they’d like to receive responses. All answers are rated and frequent participants with high rankings are highlighted in the community.
Answerology’s Q&A technology will be integrated throughout Hearst’s portfolio of Web sites. “I am excited to be bringing my knowledge of community and Q&A technology to Hearst’s diverse communities of consumers looking for answers and advice on topics that matter to them,” says Milner.
New York media investment firm DeSilva and Phillips assisted in the transaction.
