Brown's Waseca Plant Undergoes Major Expansion
Magazine and catalog printer Brown Printing Co. has begun expanding its Waseca, Minn., plant by approximately 150,000 square feet, which will add
15 percent more plant capacity.
"This initiative follows similar plant expansions and technology upgrades that have been completed during the recent past at our two other printing plants [in East Greenville, Pa., and Woodstock, Ill.]," says Tom Engdahl, president and chief executive officer of Brown Printing Co. "The financial commitment of our parent company Gruner + Jahr provides the basis for continued success in the competitive environment in which we operate."
The scope of the project, which will cost an estimated $55 million and take three years to complete, includes installing two high-capacity wide web offset presses that will replace older units, adding bindery equipment to match the increase in pressroom capacity, and installing an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) and automated guided vehicles (AGVs) to store and move materials throughout the facility.
Brown Printing Co. was listed fourth in PrintMedia magazine's most recent ranking (January/February 2005) of the Top 25 Magazine Printers.
