Hearst's Delish.com Launches Social Game on Facebook
Delish Challenge allows players to collect gifts and engage in microtransactions as they move an avatar through 23 levels, from busser to prep cook and, finally, executive chef. Players "level up" by answering trivia questions on topics such as desserts, healthy cooking and regional cuisines. The game is played on Facebook and is being promoted on the Delish.com website as well as on the Delish.com Facebook fan page.
The game is related to content on Delish.com via seasonal and topical quizzes, available on the game's "Events" tab, that link directly from the Facebook game to the site.
Upcoming quizzes include a "Guess the Box" cereal game, a bacon quiz and a guessing game involving unusual food-related images. Other customized quizzes will be developed and launched on Delish based on seasons, holidays and specialty food items.
"The game was developed to increase our presence on Facebook and take advantage of the huge network, 500 million to be exact, of members who interact and play social games on a daily basis," says Elizabeth Shepard, executive director of Delish.com. "In addition to the game, we will also be developing seasonal games that will help to drive people to the site. So our strategy is twofold."
