Latina Media Ventures Names Editorial Director
Latina Media Ventures, publisher of Latina Magazine, named Betty Cortina editorial director. One of the founding editors of O, The Oprah Magazine, Cortina will be responsible for new media ventures at Latina, a bilingual publication covering the Hispanic marketplace with a circulation of 225,000 and monthly readership totaling one million.
In January 2001, The New York Daily News named Latina as one of the "Five to Watch" in review of ad sales for year ending 2000. Latina was similarly named one of the five "Best Magazines" by Advertising Age , and number three in Adweek's "10 Under 40." In total, Latina sold 850 ad pages in 2000, a 58 percent increase in revenue over 1999.
Prior to joining Latina, Cortina, 30, was senior writer at Entertainment Weekly, staff correspondent for People Weekly and City Hall reporter for The Miami Herald.
