Media Companies Band Together to Offer Digital Advertising, Daily Deals
Eight major media companies announced yesterday they are joining forces to provide a digital advertising and daily deals service to newspapers.
The consortium of Advance Digital, A. H. Belo Corporation, Cox Media Group, Gannett Co., Inc., Hearst Corporation, MediaNews Group, The McClatchy Company, and The Washington Post Co. have launched a common platform called Find n Save, which offers promotions and deals through newspaper websites. The service is available to any newspaper in the U.S. and is expected to be used by 250 newspapers by the end of 2012 and 400 newspapers by the end of 2013, according to a press release.
Assets from online shopping solutions developer Travidia were acquired by the joint venture to enable what acting Find n Save CEO Christopher Tippie calls "a consistent, easy-to-deploy advertising solution." Through the Find n Save platform, advertisers can connect with consumers in local markets through coupons, daily deals and digital circulars.
McClatchy currently offers the service on its newspapers' websites under the DealSaver brand.
"Find n Save actually acts as a centralized portal for a variety of data providers and advertising partners," Tippie tells Publishing Executive Inbox. "DealSaver is one of those providers and is used by McClatchy extensively. However, DealSaver is not part of Travidia or the joint venture, aside from the common relationship with McClatchy."
Existing deals services used by participating newspapers, such as DealSaver and Deal Chicken, retain their branding and are integrated with Find n Save on the websites of newspapers like the Sacramento Bee and Arizona Republic. Travidia will allow newspapers to present a consistent platform to advertisers.
"The data is ingested into Find n Save, fielded, [search engine] optimized, discovered via search and rendered to the user in a variety of methods," Tippie says. "This brings additional distribution to the offer, incremental value to the advertiser and provides a better overall user experience."
The Find n Save service is currently available in 30 local markets, with new cities being added daily, according to the Find n Save website.
