Meet The Advisors
How would you describe your role in the industry?
My role in the industry is still evolving but I hope to become a respected voice that challenges institutional thinking about the industry, as well as a leader at the forefront of the digital revolution. I cite newcomers who innovated Web media such as Nick Denton, Arianna Huffington and Matt Drudge, to name a few, and hope through my digital publications and written word, to some day be held in the same regard.
What big issues do you see publishers thinking and talking about these days?
Is there another issue publishers are discussing more than how to adjust their business models to absorb this transitional period until digital generates enough revenue to overcome print declines? Every other topic/concern pales in comparison.
What does it take to succeed in digital publishing?
The short version of this answer is making money. The problem is revenue from digital publishing is not growing as fast as print is declining ... yet.
Once it does, publishers who provide quality content, in a format that capitalizes on the capabilities offered by the tablet, and at a proper price point, will not only survive but thrive. The days of putting out an average product, puffing up circulation numbers and relying on advertising revenue to carry the water are over. Accountability from consumers and advertisers will take center stage. PE
