Newsweek Announces Launch of Turkish Edition
Newsweek announced yesterday plans to launch Newsweek Turkey, its eighth non-English language edition. The new edition will be licensed out to Ciner Media Group.
“We are delighted to be joining with Ciner to launch a high-quality newsmagazine for today’s Turkish audience,” says Newsweek CEO Tom Ascheim. “We welcome the opportunity to expand our foreign-language editions into Turkey. We are excited that the launch of Newsweek Turkey is now getting close to reality.” The original launch was scheduled for 2007, but was delayed.
Newsweek Turkey will be the first licensed international news magazine in Turkey, according to Ciner Magazine Group President Mehmet Erden Demirel. “[Newsweek Turkey] will play a lead role and add different interpretations in describing and analyzing Turkey’s politics and economy while maintaining Newsweek’s editorial independency principles and quality editorial standards.”
Circulation is expected to be 50,000 at the magazine’s launch and it will be distributed throughout Turkey.
