(October 19, 2015) Boulder, CO — Active Interest Media, Inc. (AIM) today announced it has acquired August Home Publishing Company, a leading enthusiast multi-media company with well-known brands in the woodworking, gardening, and cooking space. Founded in 1979 by Don Peschke and based in Des Moines, August Home publishes category-leading titles including Woodsmith Magazine, Garden Gate Magazine, Cuisine at Home Magazine, and the PBS-distributed show “Woodsmith Shop.” The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquisition of August Home—with its well-established brands, multi-media platforms, deep archives of content, video and photography studios and access to loyal audiences—deepens and extends AIM’s portfolio, furthering the company’s continued diverse growth.
“Don and his team in Des Moines have built a phenomenal company by developing extensive expertise in monetizing content through multiple print and digital channels (magazines, television shows, digital libraries, newsletters, video, tips, SIP’s), while surrounding their customers with service,” said Andy Clurman, President and CEO of AIM. “We’re thrilled to have August Home’s creativity, skills, and audience as part of AIM.”
“Over the years, I have admired the quality, growth, and culture of AIM,” said Don Peschke, CEO of August Home Publishing. “We talked many times about the potential synergy of the two companies, and it began to make sense to join forces and become a team. My goal at August Home was to build a wonderful and enduring company. Joining AIM ensures that we will be able to continue offering our customers the best quality content for many years to come.”
With this acquisition, AIM adds a sixth division, Creative Home Arts, to its existing five groups (Marine, Healthy Living, Outdoor, Home, and Equine). Much of AIM’s current food content production, design and development from brands including Vegetarian Times and Clean Eating will shift to August Home’s extensive studios in Des Moines. Founder Peschke will continue in a leadership role with AIM, overseeing the integration of the companies.
