Press Release: Medifinder Reports that Magazine Launches Were Down in 2015, 113 Launches Compared to 190 in 2014
NEW YORK CITY, Dec. 15, 2015 – In 2015, 113 magazines launched, compared to 190 magazines in 2014, reported MediaFinder.com—the largest online database of U.S. and Canadian publications. During the same period, 35 magazines closed, compared to 99 magazines in 2014.
The top categories for new magazines in 2015 were Food (10), including Bake from Scratch; Lifestyle (10), including Beekman 1802 Almanac; Auto (8), including Via Corsa; Children (5), including Nickelodeon; Home(5), including Southern Home; and Travel (5), including Lonely Planet. Other new launches included Living Millbrook and The Future of Everything. Magazine closures for 2015 included All You, Details, and National Journal.
“Although the number of magazine closures was down this year, it is disappointing that the number of magazine launches from last year could not be sustained this year,” said Trish Hagood, President of Oxbridge Communications, Inc. and MediaFinder.com.
In the business-to-business magazine sector, 13 new titles launched in 2015, including Cannabis Business Times and BizPeake Journal, compared to 47 titles launched in 2014. In the same period in 2015, seven titles ceased, including California Lawyer, compared to 27 titles in 2014.
