A new software program from Konica Business Technologies makes managing documents composed in different applications easier for centralized reprographic departments, thus facilitating their print jobs.
The program called ePware allows reprographers to easily manage prepress documents without changing their current workflow processes. Through ePware printers create a work palate where documents created in Word, Quark Xpress or Adobe are pulled together into one file.
Compatible with any scanning-enabled Konica printer/copier, ePware makes it easier to combine documents into Adobe Acrobat PDF files. The "drag and drop" interface uses editing functions such as dividing, rotating, copying, deleting and binding in file or page units.
The software "is an ideal application for CRD and production print environments," says Kevin Kern, vice president, product development and support for Konica Business Technologies Inc. "It allows users to manipulate the PDF files even if they don't have the original application used to create the file. EPware easily migrates into the existing workflow process of the CRD."
"It's a tool that fits into a current customer workflow, meaning [printers always] had the need to [manage documents] but not the capability," adds Thom Cordeiro, product manager of Konica Business Technologies. "It includes all of your documents in a single file saved in PDF."
The document retains the original document so that printers can make changes to the text later on in the print process. "You can always open the original file," says Cordeiro.
The software's three primary features include: document control, which allows users to register the PDF files in ePware's database and share it over the network; document handling, which allows users to edit the name and attributes of the documents and enables operations such as moving to be performed inside ePware; and optical character recognition (OCR), which allows users to register and manage the scanned images in the ePware database.
