The future of journalism lies in code. That's the mantra Jay Lauf uses inside the sleek Lower Manhattan offices of Quartz, a business site the Atlantic Media Company launched more than a year ago.

"A big piece of the storytelling is finding new ways to tell stories that aren't just necessarily the flat, written word," says Lauf, the publisher and president. "Even if that is your stock and trade, there is code behind the way that will spread."

The Atlantic Media Company announced today that Jay Lauf, Vice President and Publisher of The Atlantic, has been promoted to Senior Vice President/Group Publisher of Atlantic Media Company and Publisher of new global business news venture Quartz. In his new position, Lauf assumes the company's top sales and marketing role for all Atlantic Media brands while continuing to helm The Atlantic's suite of print and digital products. Before his tenure at Atlantic Media, Lauf was Publisher of Wired.
