Introducing the "Reporter"
Is it possible that part of the problem of the newspaper industry is in the psychology? Could it be that the expectations have changed and that what was once correct and acceptable is now wrong? Is it the name of the business that is wrong? There is no news in a newspaper anymore, and most news is not transmitted on paper. So we need to change the name and the psychology of that part of the publishing business.
I want to do away with the name "newspaper." Let's change it to something else. I propose "Reporter." What does that tell you? Not that there is news about something, but rather that there is something to read about that has been reported upon. There is no substrate mentioned in the title because a Reporter can be any substrate -- paper, plastic, glass or something not yet invented -- and it can still be called a Reporter. Who works for a reporting organization? Reporters. Not newspaper men, not even newsmen. Reporters work for a Reporter.
All I'm asking is that you think about it.
